The concept of God embodies the notion that he is eternal. He had no beginning and has no end. God, then, is acausal. Like the Universe. Oops. So in all honesty folks, if this question is an argument against the existence of God, then an acausal Big Bang should be an argument against the existence of the Universe.
The irony of this has always amused me. When it really comes down to the Big Question, religion and science both suffer the same problems. But here's a simple way of looking at it. We *know* the Universe exists, so it is either eternal or it came from nothing, as counter-intuitive as that may seem. But we don't know if there is a God. We have seen no evidence. There are physical laws which are never broken and would contradict the notion of a supernatural being. So there is no reason to ponder the imponderable over the existence of the improbable.

Then post it in Religion & Spirituality.
You won't get a good answer there either, but at least you'll be in the right category.
I'd be interested to hear what "arguments" for the lack of God the other poster has, since I've been told for years that you can't prove a negative, and that absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence...there are no "proofs" either way.

I'd have to say, Chuck Norris.
But thats a stupid idea, so, if you were a christian you would say that God began everything, there was nothing before God, however, your question poses a strong counter arguement used by Atheiests to prove God doesn't exist.

Man is what God once was, God is what Man might become. I know that this is not a very popular answer, however it is the one that I hold to be true. And if it is true how cool is that that we mere mortals can become gods!

That's one of the arguments used to prove that God doesn't exist.
Edit: In response to parcequilfaut I'd say that he is correct in that absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence. However, Occam's razor definitely applies here - if you can explain it without God, then God is surplus to requirements. It's not proof, but it's as close as makes no difference (at least, to me)

if you are on the edge of known science the absence of evidence IS evidence of absence. where is the tooth fairy? no evidence.. santa claus? no evidence... when asking about ANYTHING ELSE we want evidence or proof...why not of god?
