Most fear what they don't know or can't control.

Your body is built to do everything possible to stay alive, so it is natural to fear death as it contradicts the body's prime objective.

Most either don't believe in an afterlife or fully understand a concept of a spirit plane. So to them, death means to cease being, thinking, existing in any way. I myself think we had to exist on some realm before inheriting these forms of aging rotting mass, thus when we die, we drift out of these forms into another lifeform in this plane or into the spirit plane, but. I don't think we exist without any purpose, otherwise why have laws? Right or wrong? society? Anything?

Perhaps it's because of the people you'll leave behind and the fact that you're going to the afterlife on your own. I guess going on a completely different journey and not knowing what comes is the scary part.

Because all we know is life and all we know is existing. We do not know what it is like not to exist. We barely grasp that when someone dies they are will never come back. We barely grasp the idea of being gone for eternity. Death is nothingness, and we've never felt "nothing" before, and we cannot until we die.

a fear to die is normal, though a fact, you are afraid of people robbing you yet it can happen easily, i believe however when it is your time you agree with it for we enjoy life and all good things come to an end, a good book on the subject is Tuck Everlasting, the only thing to fear is fear itself

Most aren't afraid of the actual form of death, more so of what happens after you die.

fear is a primal emotion. fear of the unknown is the most basic type. death is the ultimate unknown. i don't fear death. instead i think i welcome it a little too much. back to the question. modern people seem to fear it because of how we are taught. when was the last time you not only went to a funeral, but saw how the body was prepared before and embraced afterwards? death and life are intertwined. always have been and always will be.

I am a Christian and do not fear death. I think alot of people fear because they are non believers, afraid of the pain that can come with death and fear of leaving their loved ones behind.
