Some in Congress are saying we should leave Iraq now because The Iraq goverment has not met dead lines. well should they be talking about progress. If I remember right the Liberals said they were in power now so things are going to change. The only change I have seen is the lower paid workers got a raise but have to wait three years to get the total raise where Cingress got a raise without waiting &they will get a 4.4 raise every year no matter what the inflation rate is. Outside of that NOTHING but hearings & mud slinging. I guess because it worked for the Republicans in "98 &99" the Democrats think it will work in "07 &08" for them. I got news for them. The people put them in office to do something not just talk about it. They have had enough promises & now it is time for action.Dont you want action not just words??

CORAGRYPH; A fewv years ago during one bof those midnight seccions Congress vote them self a raise. They vote to give them self a 4.4% raise each year. This year it was to be $4,400. They said they would delay the raise until the low wage worker got a raise. 2 weeks aqfter the bill was signed they took their raise.I owned my own bussiness & I could not give myself a $4,400 raise every year. I guess I was in the wrong bussiness

Actually, under the 27th Amendment, no salary raise or pay increase for Congress takes place until after the next election, so that's incorrect.
The House has voted on over 2700 bills in the five-odd months they've been in place, while the Senate has only considered 1700 or so. Bush has signed 46 of those into law.
But that's all beside the point. The "surge" and the continued US presence in Iraq was contingent on them making specific progress, as pre-determined by agreed-upon benchmarks.
The fact that Iraq isn't even trying to solve their own problems is just one more example of why we've done enough to help them, and we don't owe them anything further.
Congress has another 18 months in office, not an unlimited indefinite plan-less occupation that could last decades. And they didn't have any externally imposed deadlines or benchmarks to meet.
So, the situations aren't really comparable at all.

Unfortunately a bare majority in Congress is not always enough to get done what most people want done, when you have an opposition that is willing to filibuster (thus requiring 60 votes in the Senate to shut off debate), and when you have a president who vetoed the bill to require timetables for leaving Iraq (thus requiring a 2/3 majority to override a veto). Why are people blaming the Democrats for not getting everything they want done, when it is the Republican minority in Congress and the President who are preventing the Democrats from doing what you want?

The reason why there's been no action is because there are still too many Senators who believe in the President and his lies. The House passes new bills and the Senate shoots them down immediately.
Oh and that little power the President has which is known as the veto certainly doesn't help. On the rare chance that the House and Senate DO agree, it has been used to override their votes.

I want alot more action. To me, one party is just as bad as the other. They all lie to get in office, then don't do what they campaigned that they would do. I hate the whole political BS. Why are they just now talking about Iraq not meeting it's deadlines for assuming responsibility of their country? They have not met any since we put our troops over there. And 6 years later, they are just now talking about it? Why? We can send the soldiers through boot camp and train them in 8 weeks to be ready to fight and defend our country....and Iraq can't do it even now? What a bunch of idiots, and our politicians (BOTH parties) are just as bad.

The Democrat's are doing their best to sway Republicans to their side and stop the war. They need Republicans cooperation if they are to get things done. They are trying to build an exit strategy, that is more than I can say about Bush, he only wants escalation of the war.

If you want change why nothing about the president who keeps blocking anything congress tries to do?
I don't understand how you can complain on one hand about congress's lack of progress and then say nothing about the president who has veto power.

You got to finish the job by putting in a new president, VP and administration that actually doesn't think they are above the law. Until that happens there will be more hearings and lots of talk.
