I think they should do something. The Homerun derby is toooooooo long now. They should cut the field in half, and get rid of Chris Berman while their at it. I think the baserunning thing would be cool, throwing accuracy would be cool, and maybe something similar to the accuracy competition that they have in the NHL, except for the pitchers. Have them try to break some kind of targets. I used to like the Derby, but it's gotten boring.

I think that'd be a pretty kool idea. The derby can be Monday, skills comp Tues, and the ASG Wednesday. Its kinda like the NHL how they have a skills competition and then the ASG later. Or maybe kind of put the derby into the skills comp. That'd be kind of interesting though. To see who throws the fastest fastball (Zumaya?), best outfield arm (Vlad?), fastest player (Reyes?), etc. Pretty kool idea.

Barry Larkin. 1989 throwing competition. Injured. Out for two months.

Owners don't like paying for injured players, particularly those injured in non-championship competition. That means they cannot be playing IN championship competition, which is what they are paid to do. Injured, they cannot.

And so there are no more skills contests, except for the very-low-risk home run thingie.

But do write to the commissioner's office, so they can tell you the same thing in more flowery terms.

stupid, the homerun derby takes up way too much time as it is, just play the game and get back to the season

Yeah that would be awesome. It would give more life to the All-Star festivities.
