What you have is a novelty item. Because of the way coins are minted it is impossible to make this kind of mistake at the Mint. Both sides of a coin are impressed at the same time.
That being said, a good looking double sided coin can be worth a little money (think $15 to $20) to the right person.
This is always an interesting item. Have fun.

As BD in NM wrote it is a novelty item and are not a mint item. It is impossible to mint such a coin for 2 reverse dies will not fit into a press. The reverse die has a different size shank than the obverse die and they are not interchangeable. I have seen them for sale as low as $5 and as high as $20, you need to find the right buyer. It is a conversation piece and great for winning bets, as long as the other person does not see both sides

It could be VERY valuable. It sounds like what you have is a coin that was mis-struck. These are very rare and unique. I'd take it to a coin dealer and get an estimate. Actually, get several quotes from reputable dealers, and ask to see documentation to back up the price.
And at the first place you go, get some sort of protective package to put it in, so that it doesn't get scratched or damaged any more than it is now.

Oh yes. I bet it is very valuable. Try to find a coin shop (or a few coin shops) in your area and see what each store offers you. You can also try calling the US mint. They might have a service that will tell you how valuable certain coins are.
