I currently have 2 children. With both of them I was unable to breast feed as I didnt produce enough milk. I drank and drank so much liquid so I could produce something but it never happened. Do you know if there is something that I can do to produce milk?

I went to a lactation nurse and she said that I was doing everything correct. I bought a pump and pumped till my boob was going to fall off and not even an ounce came out. Thanks for your help.

Breastfeeding is more about supply and demand than what you drink. The more you feed, the more you produce.

Bear in mind, it doesn't work for everyone either. You are no less a mom if it doesn;t.

Talk to a lactation specialist. It's possible that your babies didn't latch on properly from the very beginning, so they weren't able to get enough milk. Breasts work on supply and demand. Some women have to nurse or pump more often in order to produce enough milk. Of course you do need to be hydrated and nourished to produce milk, but it doesn't mean that if you drink a lot that you will automatically produce more milk. Normally you can increase your milk supply within a week by just adding extra feedings or pumping more often. Your milk supply replenishes every 90 minutes, so you can do it that often if need be to help increas your supply. I highly recommend taking a breastfeeding class. I took one at the hospital where I delivered. It was only $20 and money well worth spent. Also, the lactation specialist that taught the class called me a couple of times at home after I delivered to make sure everything was going well.

Were you sure that they were trying to feed enough? They weren't supplementing with bottles were they? Usually for most women it is just a matter of supply and demand - the more the baby nurses, the more milk you will produce. But some women just don't seem to produce as much while others could probably sell by the gallon.

Try to look up some holistic herbs you could drink. A woman I know swears by fennel seed (??). Did you ask your OB/GYN ?

i was told from my doctor when i was breast feeding that u need to have the baby suck on ur breast even if its not hungry it may not eat but it will produce more milk. try using a warm washcloth before u get ready to feed maybe about 10 minutes before hand that will help the muscles and everything relax to let a good flow happen. just pumping wont keep the milk moving if u are going to pump pump when u need to. thats how i started loosing my milk. good luck

breastfeeding is about supply and demand. Your child must suck at the breast or you must use a breast pump in order to produce adequate milk.

as my baby has gone through growth spurts I've found that I've had some trouble keeping up with her. Eating oatmeal and fenugreek helped my supply a little. Check with your doctor to see if these may be safe options for you.

Though I never had the problem ( I produced too much) my doctor told me to eat lavender rice (but I never tried it), to drink plenty of WATER and if I had a problem with let down to drink a beer or anything with caffiene in it. Always seemed to do the trick for me! Good Luck.
ps dont feel bad, its just not for some women. I also found (through talking to some of my friends) that if you werebigger busted before you had your baby it might be harder for you to produce & breastfeed! Hope this helps.

Hi, i learned in my anatomy class that there are certain hormones needed to produce milk. You might want to ask if the doctor if you body is producing the correct amount of hormones to produce milk

There is an Herbal supplement called Fenugreek available at GNC. It comes in pill form and also in a tea. I strongly suggest the pill form as the tea tastes like black licorice. This herb will help you to produce milk. It worked for me!

Pumping a lot. It is all about demand. Pump, feed, pump more. Ask a lactation consultant, too. There may be something natural that you can take! :) Found this for you...

Feed the baby often, as often as it likes. The more you feed the more milk you produce. Also, eat healthy and drink lots of water. Keep(or start) taking your prenatal vitamins. That should do the trick.
