Did you ever just sit down with an encyclopedia, dictionary or other reference book and get caught up in reading it?
*I'm so ashamed...*

You all thought I was serious about being ashamed? Awww...how cute.
Nah...I'm not ashamed. It's how I've learned so much of what I know!
But thank you for the "don't be ashamed" sentiments...
And for those of you who DO think it's really weird... :-P

Zorak says, "I am with you on this one. When I was a kid, my Dad had a huge, very huge dictionary he had found in an attic and brought home. When I was a kid, I would read it, look things up. It was a great dictionary, actually, and was more an encyclopedia within a dictionary, as it listed histories behind countries' flags, explained symbols, had an element chart, many more things you wouldn't ordinarily find in a dictionary. I was just a kid, but I thought it was great!! Keep on reading, it's the only way to gain knowledge, and enhance your life. Bwaa Haa Haa!!! Maybe one day you will be able to rule the Universe, as I have plans to!!!"

I LOVE reading the dictionary or the encyclopedia. I am also a huge fan of the Merck Manual, the Book of Lists and the Guinness Book. Other favorites include North American Birds of Prey and New England Birds. Oh, and the Almanac. You think you are a geek?

I actually did this, on several occasions. It is good to learn new words, or find out the menaings of words that you were unsure of. It does not make you a geek, at least I don't think so.....there is more geeky material out there than the dictionary!! Reading is great, doesnt matter what you read really (everything from the articles in Playboy to the dictionary and The bible). It is all about what intrests you and no one is going to label you "a geek" or "dorky" just because of what you read!! I say read on, it can do no harm!!!

Whay are you so ashamed...Of learning something new that you didn't before?!
That's absolutely wonderful!
I keep dictionairies, enclyclopedias and reference books in the bathroom - the quietest and most peaceful place in the house!
Knowledge is Power, kiddo! May you gain as much as you can hold and may you never run out of opportunities to gain and hold even more!!

I have actually read all the way through "Mrs. Byrne's Dictionary of Obscure and Preposterous Words."
Twice.
But I'm not ashamed to say it.

Not sure I'll cop to "geeky"; but my two favorite publications are "Webster's Encyclopedic Unabridged Dictionary", and "The Physicians' Desk Reference".}:>

Nope, I have never have. But you shouldn't be ashamed of what you like. Everyone is different in their own way.

All the time. Sometimes I will just pick a letter and read it all the way through. Smarter than the average bear.

Oh yes.
I love trivia of all sorts. So any book with info and facts is great. Even the phone book.
