Option 3, in the long run you and your wife will appriciate saving the money. Birthdays, holidays, events are a financial burden but we have to celebrate them but not when you are struggling with cash. The biggest fights me and my husband have are about money. Don't strain your relationship for one night or weekend of fun. If you save smart you can have a vacation of your own that last a month long to europe. Stress free and a better idea.

your wife has to go to her friend's 30th birthday party. 30 is a big deal.
but if she goes alone, it doesn't really save half the money. it only saves half the airfare. She'll still need a hotel room (which costs the same whether it's for one or two people) unless you were planning on staying with friends.
if money is so tight that the $350 you'll save rom missing this friend's 30th birthday is badly neede, than stay home. if not, go.

Both of you should go! Don't let the money stop you, there are ways to make a little extra to make up for it! Go and have a good time and get away from everything, even if it is only for a few days! Have fun!!!

Both of you go and enjoy the party. It'll be good to spend time alone together and have a great time at the party.Plus you'll get to see her good friend.
You can always cut corners on other things to make up for the money you spend.Enjoy life while you're young.
GO FOR IT.

Do what you can without putting yourself in debt. If money is a little tight, than maybe only she should go since it is her friend.
There is a fine line between not worrying about money and being foolish with money. You have to look at your finances and make that determination.

no brainer. Option 3. money matters. Explain to her about the situation. if she does not understand show her the thread.
if still she cannot understand or she just been stubborn go with her. This will avoid the conflit in future for many reason.
note: I can assure you the party will not worth what you are thinking it may be.

If going to the party means going into debt, then I would pick the 3rd option and send a really nice gift. Otherwise, the two of you should go and have a great time.

When is the next time something like this is going to come up? I say don't even worry about the money, just go and have the best time possible, leave all your worries at home and enjoy yourselves.
