I just read about what happened in Florida with the mother and her son being forced to have sex at gunpoint. What is going on with this world? This should never happen to people. If you have not read the story, June 18th in a project in Florida, a woman was raped and beaten for over 3 hours while her son was beaten in a different room. Then her son was forced to have sex with her. After which floor cleaner was poured into their eyes. What is going on with this world??? I really do not want religious answers about things in the bible. I am not an aethist but I just cannot handle those kind of answers right now. I am just extremely disappointed with the world. Why do people still want to bring children into this world? Maybe what I am asking is, what does the future bring if our world is already this much out of control?

I am almost 21 and seriously not thinking of having children. I cannot imagine bringing children into this kind of world. I understand there is love and good but at the same time, all of these horrible kinds are getting worse.

Atrocities like this have been going on for thousands of years.

The sad thing is that they have been going on for thousands of years, and we as a society haven't found a way to prevent them.

That's pretty sick and I know what you mean you don't want any religious answers because they really don't seem to support what is really happening out there. There's a book I read that kind of helped me understand the world a little bit more about these kind of subjects you're talking about...well, maybe it will help, maybe not..."Conversations W/ God by Neale Donald Walsch"...if you don't want to buy the book or get it from a public library, send me an e-mail and I will find the part of the book that might help you ease your mind a little bit more...there's a book that he wrote after CWG, it's called CWG Q'S & A'S...something like that. Anyway, my e-mail is Andreina1111@yahoo.com.
I am not supporting this or justifying it, it's sick what people are doing in the world...and it should be punished, but honestly the world is getting bigger and crazier and 'us' adults should be careful to bring kids to the world, not because of the outside world but because of the things that we might be teaching our kids so when they become adults they could turn into those monsters that do crazy stuff to our society.

If the same crime were to happen everyday or even every year, then we should definitely all be terrified. It's an isolated event. I'm sure many crimes that were as bad or even worse than the one you mentioned have been going on ever since humankind started recording history. If this dicourages you from bringing children into this world, then you are just making it worse; you would be giving up hope that there could be a better future. And, come on, you already know that our world has always been out of control. Start worrying when society stops rebounding from its mistakes. The people who did that terrible crime will be punished and will be kept away from doing anymore harm to everybody else. If that doesn't happen, then start worrying.

that is so nasty i would rather get shot then let some one treat me like that but really what is wrong with society today
and if you ask me it's only gonna get worse and i don't think we have much of a future there's just to much evil in the world
i think that the end might be coming sooner than we think ( i'm sorry i didn't mean to get religious but i think that the end of the world is coming soon weather it's a nuclear holocaust or the rapture or global warming ) i just don't know how much more violent and sick this world will get before countries will launch nuclear bombs it's really quite scary but i'm not afriad of death because living is the hardest part and i'm just so sick of all the pain and suffering in the world

I know what you mean. It's hard to have faith in anyone anymore. You should read a book that I just read. It's called "A walk across America" by Peter Jenkins. It was written in the 70s, so it's pretty old. But Peter Jenkins was a guy who was exasperated with the country back then too, and he didn't think it was worth living in America anymore. So, he took a walk across the country to meet people to see if the country was worth it anymore. It's a really good, encouraging book that reminds you there's still hope in the world. He's written a few since then too.

In this day and age ,the media is all pervasive and so omni-present .

This media ever concious of viewership/readership/profits fixates and dwells on the sick, the perverted, the exceptions, the un-represented etc.

The great motto of television news for example is : "IF IT BLEEDS ,IT LEADS "

There is absolutely NO evidence that the level/rates of the social obscenities you referred to are any worse today then 100 years ago .The difference of course is 100 years ago there was no CNN 24 hours / day spewing out all the crap happening in our societies and world into our living rooms.

In fact many studies show that the rate of such obscenities have decreased especially crimes of pedophilia (believe it or not)

Across the board on virtually all aspects of life,we today from health care to education are immeasurably a kinder / gentler society than 100 years ago .(Again ,believe it or not)

All of this to say, turn off CNN or your local news and get balance back into your life and world view.

For all our challenges, any overall disappointment in the world I assure you based solely on the collective evidence is mis-placed and wrong.

Barbarous, sickening ,vile behavior will continue just realize that there are over 6 BILLION people in this world and the vast majority do not represent what your post refers to.

I don't know what to say. My mind cannot conceive of such depravity.

Sometimes I think that if a plague wiped out all the humans and left just the plants and animals, the world would be a much better place.

But there is great beauty, courage, happiness, love and altruism to see in humanity too.

And music. Maybe that's humankind's greatest achievement.

I feel I've been very lucky in my life. But I'm glad I'm not a younger man.

I haven't heard that horror story, it's tragic. The death penalty isn't something I believe in, but with this crime, it's so awful those people have NO HUMANITY left clearly, and should be taken out of the world of decent people and shot dead. No bible thumper here. This isn't a matter for 'end times' or that BS. That crime was just bad DNA that multipled and shouldn't be allowed to.

The thing is these type of heinous acts have been going on for centuries. You just hear about it more now because there is mass media readily available. Think about the state of the late Roman Empire can we honestly say we are worse than what was going on then. I agree that this is truly horrible and these people need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law but it is no worse now than what has happened throughout history. Think of Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Nero, Pol Pot....... I could name millions of atrocities that have spanned millenia. The difference is you hear about it now and it hits home.

its scary I know, Its hard to believe there is such sadistic people out there. The future doesnt look great for our children or our childrens, children, but we really have to look at the positive things that happen to, we cant just focus on the cruel and horrific things that happen, I would love to believe that there are some really kind people who would do anything for a total stranger and not harm a living soul.
