well, many of the companies which employ the telemarketers have now outsourced their jobs to india, so that might explain why so many telemarketers are from there.
if you want to stop the calls, first, call the national 'do-not-call' registry, or contact them online (see link below), fill out the information, and most callers are legally restricted from calling again. the exceptions are charity organizations, research (polls), and creditors (collection agents). if you want, after that, do a google search for your state's registry, as well. if you DO get anymore telemarketers, you can then announce to them, at the beginning of the call, that you are on the registry, and that they are liable for monetary fines for each and every call they make to you. if you have caller id, then you can more easily document this.

They are mostly from India and other countries because the main company has outsourced this "service". People in other counties will work for a lot less money than people in the US. I have caller ID, so I generally ignore calls from telemarketers. If the caller is persistant, I answer and demand that they remove my name from their list. You can also register your phone number for the "Do Not Call" list. Google the list and register for it. You'll receive a lot less telemarketer calls.

if you knew what was going on in the world, you would know outsourcing is huge and affecting corporations in the US. The reason most of the telemark.s sound Indian is because the telemarketing jobs are being outsourced to India, where it is cheaper. And it is kind of rude to say they "talk funny", cause if you think about it many people have accents (Brits., people from the South, people from New jersey, California, etc.) Plus, it would be rude to ask them to repeat themselves, its their job to talk and get information through to the consumer.

What do you do? Get caller id and don't answer the phone if you don't recognize the number.
