You place a needle into the end of a SHARP pencil eraser and insert a string into the needle and place it over your wrist. Hold it still and it should either go in circles or back and forth. If the pencil goes in circles you will have a girl if it goes back and forth it's a boy. How does this work?

It doesn't work. Simple as that. There is absolutely no way a string and needle can figure out the sex of a fetus.

Tricks like this utilize the fact that people will subconscious influence the experiment to give the outcome they want. No one can really hold a string still, but they are perfectly capable of subconsciously inducing motions they know will correspond with the outcome they want.
