boy---been there done that.
1. ok....use a bucket of clean warm water and a clean rag...resaturate the area and blot up as much as you possibly can.

2. Towel dry

3. Use Oxi Clean and a scrub brush, put a generous aound of the OXi Clean on the spot and scrub really good with your brush.

4. Now get some more clean warm water and rinse it with a clean rag...remember to towel dry again.

This will bring up the 'stain' area.
I have even used this on a large red wine (merlot) stain....
I love Oxi Clean....works great.

Good luck

Whatever you do, do not use laundry detergent because it will set the stain. You can use undiluted dishwashing liquid or shampoo and rub them into the carpet. Then use white vinegar to neutralize the soap so that it doesn't attract dirt and dust becoming a stain.

Like the first answer I would use a shampooer for carpet. No soap just water I would use a luke warm water almost cold water to get the fabric softener out.
