both of my parents are happy with me being gay, and also my boyfriends parents are happy. i have not known many gays who arent accepted by their parents, its unfortunate if they arent, people should look past the sexual preference.

Many parents react in differnent ways.
However I think the reason I mother is dissapointed with a gay child is because mothers are often more concerned about grandchildren and feel they will not have them if their child is gay, especially a gay son. Also mothers are more often concerned with the way general society will treat a homosexual child and don't want their kid to suffer that.
I think part of the reason a parent feels less happy if the child is their same gender is perhaps because they feel they have failed as a suitable role-model for that child.
I think dads can be more OK with a lesbain daughter because then they don't have to fear protecting them from men and all that stuff about a fathers fear over his daughters viginity.

Unfortunately, you'd think that even without the extra layer of drama being added by their kids "turning out gay", that parents would unconditionally love all their children. But to be for real about it, this isn't always the case.
How many straight families are there where a father loves his daughter more than his son, or a mother dotes more on her son than she does her daughter? And the different combinations can change, but let's face it: in a family where there's more than one child, sometimes parents do have a "favorite." They may not like to talk about it, but they do. When a child (or more than one) comes out, it certainly complicates matters, but is it really all that different from, say, the firstborn in the family getting more attention than his or her younger sibs? (Or less?)

Sterotype. You are pretty much saying all gay people are girly. I am bisexual and I hate shopping and keeping everything neat around house. I am very manly when it comes to being gay.

Yes, I've noticed this. It's pretty sad actually; all parents should love their children no matter what. Sexual orientation shouldn't affect the way a parent feels about their child.

Naw, I find that parents of gay kids accept them so they can't say that they raised their kids wrong or were bad parents.
When my stepdaughter told us she was involved in a lesbian relationship, we told her that we loved her but wouldn't support her choice. She had to take responsibility for her own actions in life.
After 6 years she dumped the gay lifestyle and is now engaged to a fine young man, and we couldn't be more proud of her!
