the best baseball player in the world is a matter of opinion and will forever be an argument. i mean can you really compare an outstanding pitcher to an outstanding hitter? they are meant to do totally different things in the game and that is why there is no award for the best baseball player in the world. any way my favorite team is the phillies and i could give you a list of the many all time baseball greats but not a name of the one player alone who i would think is the best in the world

favorite team = yankees
best player in world = arod
arod has put up numbers on both good and bad teams.
he's used to be one of the top defensive and offensive shortstops and currently has improved so much fielding wise at third that he could easily win a few gold gloves there.
he's somewhat in contention for the triple crown (although I don't think he'll get the batting average part of it)
*** if pujols wasn't having his worst season of his career I think it would be a pretty close call. johan santana is also a player to contention for that title although I think its impossible to compare pitchers to hitters in this instance
