You can do it 5 times before you reach zero

Then you can do it as many times as you like if you're not worried about negative numbers.

You can subtract 5 from 25 as often as you like - you'll always wind up with the answer 20

Once (after that you are subtracting from 20)

OR

as many times as you want:

25 - 5 = 20 (once)
25 - 5 = 20 (twice)
25 - 5 = 20 (thrice)
25 - 5 = 20 (4 times)
25 - 5 = 20 (5 times)
25 - 5 = 20 (6 times)
25 - 5 = 20 (7 times)
25 - 5 = 20 (8 times)
.....

You can only subtract 5 from 25 once; after that, you'd be subtracting from 20 and not from 25.

Only once. After the first time, the number is no longer 25 but 20.

25 / 5 = 5.
That means you can subtract 5 five times before you go into negative numbers.
If you include negative numbers, then there is no limit to the number of times.
25 - 5 - 5 - 5 -5 - 5 = 0
25 - (5*5) = 0
After that the results become:
-5, -10, -15, ... with no limit.
