It seems like it's easy for people to really get into popular fiction like the Harry Potter books. Why?

It allows us the opportunity to escape reality for a little while into a well written world of fantasy where we may induldge in our childish dreams and who wouldn't want that?

Because our own lives seem to be lacking in some way. Also, Harry Potter and other fantasy/science fiction books often have a mystical-theological bent. Since church is not the end all and be all it was in past generations, many get a seeming connection to the "spiritual" through literature--other than the Bible.

Because they enjoy it? Because some people actually like to read? Because some people like to discuss things that they enjoy with others who enjoy similar things? If you don't like popular fiction, then don't read it.

Probably for the same reason people get wrapped up in movies - everybody likes a good story.

Probably because he was a likable character. Sci-Fi is fascinating to a lot of people not to mention that it is also an escape from the hum drum of daily life.

Because reading is a hobby just like watching tv or going on yahoo answers. it can take people somewhere unattainable in the normal day to day world. gets people to use their brains and imagination.

Because we want to be able to have SOME faith that the world isn't COMPLETELY dull and boring!!!

maybe because every1 else is reading them. ive read them and dont think theyre that great, but i can see why ppl read them.
