Sky router is set up quite securely by default so I doubt you have a hanger on. The monitor icons are normally for each network you are connected to. One will certainly be for your wireless network. Are you connected to a wired network too?

You should see an icon for each network connection (wired or wireless) on your machine. This means each network card. This is quite normal. To check if someone else is stealing bandwidth go to the configuration pages of the router, as in the manual, and check the dhcp allocations. There should be one for each machine connected. You should always use encryption, so while in the configuration system go to the wireless security section and set up WPA or 128 bit WEP encryption, save your changes and then use your wireless card's utility to find your router, set matching encryption and connect. This protects you against stolen bandwidth, possible security breaches on your pc, and also any legal consequences from an outsider using your connection for illegal purposes.

As a Sky Broadband user myself I sometimes see that icon myself. If you have a wired network you will see the icon for that as well. If you've set up the network to display icons when your computer connects to the network then it's normal. However you should check to see if someone is in fact hooking in as wireless tends to have a massive range (up to 1km in the most powerful units). If someone outside or one of your neighbours is indeed hooking into your router then report them as this can lead to embarrassing situations. But fear not if you have only one PC then you should be alright if you only see one network icon. If you see two then you maybe linking up with another Sky Broadband user or someone outside is hooking up with you.

ROFL, no that icon is normal.

Don't worry about it, it's just your network tray icon.

It shows that your PC is connected to your wireless or cabled network (your router creates your home network in order to deliver your broadband)

That icon is from your wireless LAC (local area connection) and is letting you know that you are connected to your router. It is normal; however, if you don't want to see it then go to Network Connections > right-click WC (wireless connection) > properties > uncheck the box "show icon when connected".

h,mmmm yes, possibly. It also depends how far your router can extend to, this means that perhaps your nextdoor neighbour can also use your wireless router 9but with a weaker connection)
