Denatured alcohol is ethanol, (usually 95% alcohol/water), with trace amounts of methanol, methyethylketone, and isopropanol added (< 3-4%). This keep you from drinking it. If you drink denatured alcohol you will get violently ill, and probably have to be taken to the hospital. This is one of the ways the federal government has allowed the sale of ethanol to the consumer without imposing a hefty consumption tax (like they have on booze).

Isopropanol is CH3CHOHCH3. It has one more carbon than ethanol and cannot be consumed. It is however a very useful solvent for things like nail polish, rubbing alcohol, sterile gauze pads, handiwipes. It evaporates very quickly and kills bacteria so it is used to sterilize the skin before injections.

Denatured alcohol is basically ethyl alcohol made poisonous so that it cant be used in drinking purpose. It's done by mixing small amounts of Methyl alcohol(CH3OH), pyridine, naphtha etc with it. It's poisonous & on intaking it may cause blindness (due to presence of methyl alcohol) or even death. It is used as fuel & solvent in painting & burnishing.

Isopropyl alcohol or isopropanol is a member of the alcohol homologous series having formula (CH3-CHOH-CH3). Its a secondary alcohol.Isopropyl alcohol (also isopropanol, rubbing alcohol, or the abbreviation IPA) is a common name for propan-2-ol, a colorless, flammable chemical compound with a strong odor. It has the chemical formula C3H8O and is the simplest example of a secondary alcohol, where the alcohol carbon is attached to two other carbons. It is an isomer of propanol. It's used in sterlizing pads & as a cleaner in different fields.

denatured alcohol is ethanol with a small amount of methanol added to render the ethanol unfit to drink. ethanol is a 2-carbon molecule. Isopropyl is a 3-carbon alcohol in which the alcohol group is bonded to the middle carbon as opposed to one of the end carbons in the 3-carbon chain. Stick with the isopropyl for your zits.

Isopropyl Alcohol is an alcohol based on propane. Denatured alcohol is made primarily of ethanol which is based on ethane. To allow ethanol to be sold for commercial used it is rendered un-drinkable (denatured) by adding poisons. In organic chemistry, simple compounds are organized by the number of carbon atoms. One carbon atoms and four hydrogen atoms you get methane. Add one oxygen atom and you get methanol, methyl alcohol. Two carbon atoms and six hydrogen atoms make ethane. Add one oxygen atom and you get ethanol or ethyl alcohol- or 200 proof vodka :}. With three carbon atoms in a string and eight hydrogen atoms you get propane. Add an oxygen atom and you get propanol. If the oxygen atom is attached to the middle carbon aton you get isopropanol
