Democrats are well positioned to expand their majority in Congress next year, according to a survey of battleground districts released Tuesday.

“The electoral situation could not be better, particularly in the battleground districts where 2008 looks like a repeat of 2006,” read a memo from Democracy Corps, a think tank founded by James Carville and pollster Stan Greenberg.

The survey, conducted by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research, polled 1,600 people in 70 districts. It found that Democrats are ahead by an average of 9 points in these battleground districts.

If Democrats wants to capitalize on the current political climate, however, they must continue to fight the administration on Iraq but also not lose sight of domestic issues, according to the memo.

What do you think of this memo? Will the Democrats indeed see another gain as they did in 2006?

2 years ago it was a storm of antagonism towards the GOP, I think it has died down. Not because Republicans got any worse, but because Democrats aren't any better. Democrats don't need to gain more seats in Congress, they do need to win the presidency and push through some of their agenda to show they're better than Republicans, I doubt much progressive agenda will be pushed through though, considering how much sway special interests and corporations have over both parties.

in the journey that your hypothetical incorporates pass, there'll be a extensive vacuum on the precise of the Democratic social gathering. It truly relies upon on if Hillary wins the nomination or no longer. If somebody else turns into the nominee and looses the final election, Hillary will nonetheless be considered as a efficient stress interior the social gathering. If Hillary is the nominee and looses the election you will see the Democrat long knives emerge. Pelosi, Kerry, Edwards, Obama all will vie for administration of the social gathering. *

Only if the Republicans continue to flounder. Look a lot of Democrats are not going to vote for Hillary and will stay home.

I don't see how considering they gained control of the House and Senate in '06, promised a bunch of things, and then saw their approval rating to an all time low of 14%. I actually see the Republican's gaining. Not re-taking the majority but gaining in the House.

Yes, Democrats will gain in Congress :-( , but they will remain locked out of the White House. :-) Unfortunately, I think Rudy Giuliani might well get elected president.

Democrats seem to always be in perpetual campaigning mode, but fail to actually govern. It's overkill the way they're acting...enough already!

You mentioned poll numbers, yet the democrat-controlled congress approval rating is lower than Bush's. It's the "Do-Nothing Congress" ...again!

They're squandering opportunities like they have done in the past. They may actually lose their 'majority' status.
When will they learn?
