I have about 1/2 a tank of oil left, which I paid for, and am wondering if I am legally entitled to get reimbursed by my landlord for the remaining oil or if I can deduct the cost from my last month's rent.

Much depends on the situation and the lease. Did you move in with an empty tank there or was there a half tank of oil there for your use ? If you entered the premises with a half tank of free oil for yourself, then you aren't entitled to anything, since you're leaving what you found.

If it was bone dry upon move in, then you quite reasonably can ask the landlord for a reimbursement which he can charge to the next tenant upon occupancy.

Unless you were charged for the oil in the tank when you moved in, the answer is probably No. But talk to the owner to see what can be worked out.

That SHOULD have been addressed in your lease.

If it wasn't, both you and the LL have messed up. You'll need to discuss this with the landlord and work out some kind of agreement.
