You are absolutely correct. I am a south indian aryan and I believe that people like light skinned people then dark ones. Well, in Indian Idol 1 that fair guy got more votes than the dark even though the dark guy was better. I don't like this crap, seriously. In America no matter how black you are, white people or people will still like you. North Indians are more into looks than south indians on an average basis. There is nothing wrong in being dark. Dark=Fair=All other races. Why are we such idiots discriminating people of our own race? White people are not better then African American people. Dark people can look elegant. Only in India since a person is dark, that guy won't care about looks and he looks ugly. Dark p

I know what you mean. This prejudice is not just against colour, but against a lot of other things.
North Indians can't stand the way most South Indians eat. They cannot stand the fact that they wear bathroom slippers with lovely Kanjivarams.
They laugh at their language, their pronunciation of different English words.
North Indians feel they are a superior race, and hence superior in everything.
Don't let it bother you. I am aware that Tamil Brahmin's have beautiful skin.
You know what you are. Does it matter what the others think. You should be comfortable in your skin - black, brown, yellow, red whatever colour it is. Colour doesn't make a person.
The prejudice is not just against South Indians, they value fair skin even amongst their own. For them fair is beautiful.

I think it's just human mentality to make fun of others, to make themselves feel better. It's mostly a sign of insecurity in the other person.
A lot of north indians don't sound intelligent. I know that they are made fun of in this respect. As in, all muscle and empty head inside. And fair doesn't mean beautiful, a lot of south indians have beautiful features.

i know exactly what you mean...just have something to say to what Paddy (above me) said...when you say that "North Indians hate the way most South Indians eat" i do understand this, i laughed when i read that because even my South Indian parents have commented on this. but why has this become a stereotype of ALL South Indians? i mean, i'm sure there's a lot of us out there that eat with manners, cleanly i guess. whatever it's called. i mean it's not just with Indians. so many things are stereotyped in the world: all nerds have glasses and calculators in their pockets, bullies are big and ask for your lunch money, North Indians are fairer than Southerners....it's ridiculous...and time to change.

I do not think that North Indians are prejudiced against South Indians because of their skin colour.

Its not fully true.
In some places, with some people (manufacturing defect) it may have occurred.
However on the whole there is no such prejudice.
