My parents just bought me a car and the prevous owner smoked. The dealership cleaned the car, but it still smells. Whats the best way to get rid of the stink?

Hey, when you find a really nice car with 18,000 miles on it, and it IS used, I bet you would buy it too. Smoke can be removed, ya moron.

Step One: Shampoo the car's interior, including carpets, upholstery and floor mats with an odor eliminating shampoo, available at hardware or home improvement stores.
Step Two: Clean all washable interior surfaces with the same shampoo. Put a small amount directly on a damp sponge, work in and wipe down.
Step Three: Clean all the windows inside with a glass cleaner. Repeat if necessary.
Step Four: Sprinkle baking soda on dry carpet, working it in with your hands. Wait a week and then vacuum.
Step Five: Clean leather upholstery with a commercial leather cleaner/deodorizer, available at your dealership or at home improvement stores.
Step Six: Vacuum ashtrays to remove residual ash. Place a small amount of baking soda or kitty litter into the ashtrays to absorb odors.
It worked for me when I quit smoking!!

Sorry Sweetheart, you will NEVER get the smell out. If you changed all the seats, the carpet, the overhead, you would be making headway. FreeBreeze will NOT do it, Steam cleaning will NOT do it. About the only choice you have is to put an air freshener in your car and hope for the best. Then every time it rains the smell will re-appear.
Good luck. Pops

You need to steam-clean all the upholstery in the car. A car cleaning business should be able to do this for you, but it will cost at least several hundred dollars, perhaps a thousand. Even then, it will probably not remove the smell completely.
The better choice is to simply buy a car that hasn't been smoked in.

the #a million best difficulty is to bypass away your residing house windows rolled down! Spray febreeze everywhere; seats, carpet, ceiling, everywere. clean it out rather good to do away with any ashes that have fallen in the concel area. And lastley, get an air freshner in case you %. purely take it out some hours before you're taking her for a journey so the scent isnt' too good!

Complete interior detail, shampoo seats, carpet if it has carpet. Several small boxes of arm&hammer baking soda (like the kind you put in your refrigerator-freezer.) Change the cabin filter if it has one. And alot of car freashner with fragrence of your choice. And sunny days leave windows partly down. I did this to used car and in about 2 weeks i noticed the cig smell dissapered. Remeber to scrub the inside of all glass on the truck, nicotine sticks everywhere.
Thro away the ash tray too.

Vacuum the seats and carpets at a commercial vacuum like the ones found at convience stores and car washes.
Treat the seats and carpet with Febreze products. Use the Febreze air freshner with the scent that you like.

I would try spraying it with Febreeze. If that doesn't work, try sprinkling the car with carpet powder. Especially one with baking powder. Let it sit for about 15 minutes, then vacuum it all up.
