I have a nissan altima 1995 and I've too it to the mechanic becuase it the engine turns off randomly when I drive. it started happening the day after I ran out of gas a few weeks ago.

The mechanic hooked a computer to get an electronic code and he said that I need to replace the cranckshaft sensor amd so I did and it did not solve the peoblem.

It can't be the distributer becuase i recently got it changed, and my car stops soo randomly. The day I want it to die so the mechanic can check the problem it doesn't die. and when I go home it dies.

Power is still on when car dies and when it does staul my rpm can be at any point, the stick just drops to zero without fluctuating. Sometimes my car starts right back up, and sometime i have to wait 5-30 min then i can start it. and it doesnt matter if the engine is cold or hot.. its always random

I'm a studnt and cant aford to spend too much, getting another car is not worth it since i've replaced pretty much everything in the car

It seriously sounds like you have an electrical grounding problem. Sounds like with as much work as you've had done on it a grounding strap was not tightened down correctly.

Look along the vehicle to see if there is a grounding strap that is loose and not properly connected especially around where work was recently done on your vehicle.

I would replace the fuel filter her is why.
Whan you run a car completely out of gas you suck up all the junk from the tank. Now there is a filter in the tank to prevent this, but you cant see it .It can be allowing the junk to get past it and into the fuel filter So it traps all the junk in the filter. Over time it just gets gunked up and stops the fuel flow. It is cheep and should only take 10-15 minets to replace.

by running it out of gas, you had to fill the tank. That stired up a whole lot of crap in the fuel tank. The pump has pushed some of that garbage into the fuel filters, wich are partialy pluged now. As the vehicle moves around, so does that junk in the filters.

replace all the fuel filters you can get at , and fill your tank up, when it gets down to about a half .

This sounds electrical. Check to make sure your battery connections are clean and tight. It could be the voltage regulator, plug wires, or even the engine control module. If you've checked those things and it doesn't help take the car to a shop that specializes in electrical work (see the yellow pages).

Sounds like your fuel pump may be on the fritz
and also it could be major debris in your fuel filter.
Remember, your tank has crud at the bottom, and when you run out of gas, you pull that crud with the gas, into the filter,

either elctrical grounding problem or sounds like it could be vapor lock. what tytpe of gas to you use? stay on regular. also keep your tank full dont let it go below 3/4 full se eif that saolves the problem. i had the same thing with my mustang. it solved mine. good luck
