I am not sure how many tribes are left.

I do know when the Constitution of theUnited States was 1st written, it did not apply to Indians who were not taxed by the U.S. Government (as Indian tribes were considered their own nations).

The Cherokee of Georgia legally had their own Republic with their own Constitution (a lot based on the U.S. Constitution but the Cherokee Republic was in fact legally it's own Country and legally not part of the United States of America).

Sadly the Cherokee got removed from their Republic and forced out to Oklahoma.

Ok I am not slamming my Country the United States, I do love my Country very much, we are not a perfect Country and because I love America, I do want to improve America, and I want to right a lot of past wrongs.

Ok we can't undo past wrongs but we can make up for it.

Of course I am against making taxpayers pay slavery reparations, I have no problem with businesses that were involved in slavery choosing to make such reparations without force but I am against forcing the taxpayers to pay it out when apologies are good enough (heck I was glad when Tony Blair apologized for the Irish Potato Famine).

Last I checked there was 713 Federally recognized tribes/ Nations. And Still MORE waiting to be recognized by the Federal Government. And roughly 4 million of us on and off rez.

I live off rez and my tribe is roughly 2,500 strong. At Pit River.
The BIA has a PDF of tribal leaders for Federally Recognized tribes.

WE ARE STILL HERE, despite it all.
