I recently replaced the bolts that connect the sway var to the a-arm (both sides) on my 91 Escort LX. My question is this: is it necessary to get a front end alignment after replacing the bolts?

Not at all. The sway bar resists chassis rolling in corners. It does not change wheel alignment whatsoever. Your Escort as well as most front wheel driven cars have very limited adjustments on the front end. Toe in or out can be changed by lengthening (toe in) or shortening (toe out) the steering arms coming out of the rack. Caster and camber normally can't be changed without replacement camber plates inside your engine compartment at the very top of the strut towers. The strut towers usually need modification for the replacement plates to work properly.

you should have alignment checked . sway bar will act as a spring. if car has a sagging spring putting in new sway bar links will raise the sagging side slightly. will change toe and camber.

The sway bar has absolutely nothing to do with alignment.
