Not a big deal! Fresh blood and cramping is a very bad sign, but brown discharge is probably nothing. It is pretty common in normal pregnancy.
Your Dr. probably sees this all the time in healthy pregnancy, but wants to do the ultrasound for medical liability reasons (even if 999/1000 times this is totally normal, for medical liability reasons the Dr. is going to follow-up since you called them so concerned. If they were to tell you "it's nothing to worry about, it happens all the time" and then you were the 1/1000 case... you could sue them for a lot of $... which means for legal reasons 999 women will end up with an ultrasound "just to make sure" even though it is going to most likely show that everything is as normal as can be).
Since you are scared to death, go in for the ultrasound so that it can soothe your mind! In the meantime, relax, eat nutritious food, and stop worrying. Stress is something you need to avoid for your baby and yourself.

Brown discharge is likely to be 'old blood'. They just want to make sure the baby is OK and that your placenta isn't in an awkward position. (that's one thing that could cause the blood) I've had to go for a few extra ultrasounds because my placenta wasn't where it was suppose to be. Its not a bad thing necessarily, its just something the doctor needs to be aware of. Think about it this way. If the doctor was REALLY worried that it was something dangerous, he would have told you to go to the ER. He just wants to check and make sure you two are OK. I'm sure everything is fine. I wish you the best of luck.

Your doctor is being thorough, that's a good thing. It may be nothing, but at least you have a doctor that cares. I am 20 weeks and bled heavily in my 19th week for 2 days with horrible cramping and my doctor didn't even write it in my chart or check the ultrasound or anything- needless to say I am switching doctors for sure.

It's probably just a precaution. They want to make sure that it is not early sign of potential miscarriage. If they think that there is a possibility of somethig going wrong, they will tell you that you need to take it easy or put you to bed for a little while to reduce physical strain. Stay calm.

It sure did happen to me and I freaked out. Turned out I was having rectal bleeding (very common during pregnancy). So don't worry, I am sure everything will be fine, but you were very smart to make an appointment!
Try sticking a tampon in and pull it out to see if you get any trace of blood. This could give you a little relief, it is an idea my doctor gave me to do.

Well its great that your doctor still wanna see you to make sure everything is ok. Don't worry about it. Light spotting during early pregnancy is normal most of the time.

I wouldn't worry to much. It was a good thing to call your Dr. and your Dr. is just being cautious, which is GREAT. It's better to have that than be brushed off. Right? It's very normal for women to periodically spot. As long as it's not blood and a flow, I wouldn't worry.
