I think the best is Steinbrenner (NYY) and the worst is Angelos (BAL).

Best: Steinbrenner because he desires to see his team win.

Worst: Nunning family. The Pittsburgh Pirates are the thirdmost profitable franchise in baseball, yet all of that money goes into their pockets, not back into the team.

As much as I hate to admit it, George Steinbrenner is arguably the best owner in baseball. He's always willing to do whatever it takes - which usually means spending money - to help his team win. The only competition they have right now is the Henry-Lucchino-Werner group with the Sox.

As for the worst owners, I'd go with Sternberg, Naimoli and the others involved in the Devil Rays ownership. They're a classic case of a team building well through the draft but refusing to do anything to help in the front office. They always keep their payroll almost nonexistent, and they don't make any effort to build by spending money on free agents. Even the best GM can't win if his owners aren't willing to loosen the pursestrings once in a while.

Steinbrenner? STEINBRENNER?? He's the worst! He's the one who changed the game to one of mercenary hit-men and 'to heck with what the fans like'!! And he can't even do THAT well! All that money and he loses time and time again in the playoffs to teams with better pitching. Bernie Williams was let go despite the fact that the fan loved him and that he would have been better off the bench than a lot of the players they have. He would have let Mantle go. The game is the way it is now in part because of him -- the BAD part! I will NEVER accept that Steinbrenner is a good baseball owner. He'd be awesome in the NFL, but baseball? BASEBALL?? You're kidding me. Right?

Angelos is not the worst for one reason...he actually does want to win...he just hasn't a clue how.

On the other hand, look at the Phillies conglomerate of owners. They won't spend money unless they can guarantee a profit. As a result of this group and many others, they are 1 win away from 10,000 losses as a franchise...the most in MLB history (and sports history overall I believe).

Best owners? I'm going to say the Astros.
