I've seen people ask questions if Romney will free Warren Jeffs, legalize polygamy, and other silly things. Fact: if you're a polygamist in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, you get excommunicated. It was a practice done 100+ years ago out of necessity, as many Mormon fathers and husbands were murdered leaving no one to care for their families. It is no longer practiced by LDS people, although small groups claiming to be "fundamentalists" still do.

So, why are people making such a big deal out of a guy who has strong moral character, great leadership, and family values? Sound so terrible?

p.s. Of the top GOP candidates, he's the only one with one wife.........

dear "fedup"

in your anser to my question, you stated that mormons will get excommunicated if they don't pay their 10% tithe? you are misinformed. if you smoke, drink, don't pay tithing,...... you will simply not be permitted to go to the temple, and a bishop would council you to help you. only MAJOR things would get you excommunicated: murder, cheating on a spouse, being a drug dealer.

The answer to that is the same as the time that John F Kennedy became President. People had been worried for years that with a Catholic President, the Government would become ruled by Rome, which is of course nonsense. Once he was elected , it was ok to elect a Catholic. The same will happen for a Mormon.

I have no idea what people are so afraid of. When he ran for governor of MA, it wasn't such a big deal. I mean people knew he was Mormon, but no one seemed too concerned. I feel he did a great job in MA as a republican governor for a democratic state and he proved he could work with the democrats and republicans alike. I think most Americans are used to sensationalist news reports and especially those is the 'red' states have a fear of something that is not familiar to them. They are grasping at straws when they talk about polygamy, Romney has good family values and wonderful leadership skills as seen in the Olympic committee and MA.

America went through the same ordeal with Kennedy. I don't know what in the world is so offensive about a Morman. Are we still living under separation of Church and State? Bigots, Grow up, it's the 21st century. Besides, if conservatives want to complain, complain about Rudy cheating on his wife, is that Christian? Complain about McCain backing amnesty, is that American? Please, Romney is the best candidate from the GOP field and the only who can win.

I think people are just ignorant to the Mormon faith compared to their own.
Honestly how can anyone who believes that people can walk on water and Resurrection look at anyone else and call them crazy. Seems pretty hypocritical if you ask me.
I'm not a fan of Romney because of his flip flop on abortion personally.
Mormons are people with a belief just as silly as anyone else's. What matters are the issue's and the platform they are running on VS what they have done and said before.
I would vote for a guy that worships hermit crabs, so long as I agree with his political Ideals on things that ACTUALLY matter.

Because not everyone buys into their strict moral values. I personally am not threatened by a Mormon as president. But I will never become a Mormon.

I was told that Mormons eat infants... they sound scary

I agree with you...Romney is a great Candidate who does have by far the srongest family values. Bt there are too many out spreading rumors and accusastions of or about Mormons.

I did really hear some people calling the church of LDS a cult and that upset me even though i am not of that faith. some people are just too close minded to even try to understand others.

I think people are afraid that he's going to be turning to Salt Lake for every little decision. The anti's have people afraid that the Mormons are trying to take over the country, and this is how they are going to do it.

A Mormon Commander and chief, I think not. Is it because he has no foreign policy experience? What's Warren's views on Budget & Economy and where did he get experience with these issues?

Oh, yes, where did your "Of the top GOP candidates, he's the only one with one wife ... " statement come from?

you done stated the reasons, people are afraid of what they don't know.

However, would you be asking this if it was a different religion like Wicca, jehovah's witness, or an Atheist? We supposedly have freedom of religion, but when our currency even says in God we trust, how can you expect anything but a 'christian' president?

They still have many of those polygamists in Utah...some branch that is still very much part of the LDS teachings.

The biggest problem that I have with that "church" (I use that term loosely) is the fact that they believe in "magic" under ware, and they believe that when they die they become rulers of their own planet...not quite the "Christians" that they are trying to make themselves out to be...they also believe that Satan is Christs brother.

The worst part about them? The fact that they will excommunicate anyone who doesn't tithe them 10% of their income to the church, and then the people will lose their jobs. I have personally seen this time and time again from them.

It is not near as "Innocent" as you are trying to make them out to be! One LDS member is like all the rest of them. There is no difference!
