Is a GeForce 8500GT much better than a GeForce 6800GT?

The 8500GT is about the performance of the 7300GT. NOT a gaming card.

You want a video card getting 25-30fps or higher at the resolution you are playing the game. Anything slower will NOT be playable (skipping/jerky movement).

Yes, to a point.

The 8500 is one of the mid-range cards for the 8000 series.

While the 6800gt is one step below the top of the line 6000 series.

This means that on older games, like Doom 3 for example, at lower resolutions the 6800gt will get better framerates.

But when playing newer games at higher resolutions and image quality, the 8500gt with it's advances in architecture will get better frame rates.

Plus it has DX10 support.

yes its dx10 supported in vista. it can play some next-gen games.
