The way is vey simple. Put on the national ballet a law that raises the minimum drinking age to 25. Personally there are many many benefits to this law and it would help colleges with the binge drinking and under age drinking problem. but most importantly it would never pass because every college student would vote against it. passionately. what do you think? i think we should do it for the next presidential election. trust me students would care about politics then.

focus on the topic. which is how to get younger adults to vote. so maybe the idea needs a little fine tuning. thats why I'm asking you. so ignore the grammer. focus on how we can get them to vote. if you have a better idea. let me hear it.

Good luck with that one. I am 37 year old mom of a 12 year old girl, I would definitely go vote to raise the minimum drinking age.

Don't forget for every college student not only are there parents, but grandparents... Go ahead, put it on the ballot.

there are too many reasons why people don't vote.

As for upping the legal drinking age, shouldn't it be lowered?
I spent nearly 3 years living in Germany where it is not near uncommon to go to a club and see younger kids drinking. And you know what? There is a lot less instances of underage consumption, teenage alchoholism, etc because it is allowed.

When at 18 you are old enough to marry, old enough to die for this country, old enough to vote for its leaders, and old enough to live on your own, Why is it that we are not legally allowed to drink at 18? It's stupid. If we made some changes we could help with the DUI stuff and the underage crap. In Germany, for example, a bartender will call you a cab, even if you are in the smaller towns, there are cab companies.

Just look at the US and how it was before when police would wait at the local pub and offer you a ride home instead of watching you leave and then pulling you over so they can write the ticket?

lower the age, decrease underage consumption. I asked some german friends who were younger why they didn't drink and party all the time like american kids do, and we came to the same conclusion. Because it is legal, there is less temptation to drink, hence the occasional but not constant partying.

Poor spelling and poor civics. Why disparage young voters as a bunch of drunks- just allow them to vote at will as usual. The freedoms to vote and not to vote are both important -why give someone a mandate if you don't believe the candidate? People drive at 16 or 17 and start paying taxes into social security to support the nanny state, so why not blog for me as The Nassau County Executive Committee Chairman to The Constitution Party with an excellent history of providing leadership in civil rights defense, National Security, and Health Care with my blood donations that support The United States Marines? All a candidate would have to do to get the vote of that segment of the population would be to promise to legalize marijuana.

Young people need to be encouraged to get involved in politics--before some old codger reinstitutes the draft and makes abortion a crime as well as a sin.

Now THAT is an original idea! The only problem is that whatever legislator would sponsor the bill (and SOMEONE has to for it to be on the ballot) would be effectively ending their political career.

We may get them to the polls but remember for every 18 year old, there are two parents who love to see that passed. As they say, be careful of what you wish for.

I know a lot of college age people who do not drink and would support such a law. We do not see the point of drinking and acting like idiots because its some cultural norm. Grow a brain and use it people.

You probably do not understand since you go to some low life state owned institution.

Or we could put a law on the ballot that says if you don't vote you get deported. Then we win either way!

Or you can just celebrate the fact that you CAN vote but don't have to. Sure it would be better if more people voted (especially people that complain without even voting!) but cest la vie.

Bad idea.
If an 18 year old is able to fight and die for his country, be tried as an adult, he should be able to have a cold one too, don't you think?
