I would stay with XP for the moment until :-

1: Vista has had at least one Service Pack issued which fixes all the bugs found to date.

2. Software companies have updated their drivers to work with Vista.

3. The price of Vista comes down (Don't hold your breath)

If you've sufficient hardware as a good RAM size, 80 GB hard disc and loads of patience and money, then yea, u can switch to Vista.
Y the pessimism on Vista? Well, Vista is still in its infancy and the market has been complaining very much about its incompatability with other peripherals like printers, scanners and even in some cases routers. Loads of bugs have also been detected and the developers are right now, having a pretty gud time, fixing the bugs and retesting the OS and thus sending out Service packs. In short, the glitches that often comes with Microsoft product's in its initial releases are available in this too...

XP on the other hand is pretty stable and is very much Microsoft's cash dispenser for the time being. Since it has been in the market for quite some time, it does not have much of a compatability issue with other devices, games and even with other platforms. Moreover, XP being relatively strong in the market, consumers would not mind running it for another 5-7 years; making applications and products still developed around XP. And paramountly, Microsoft is not gonna take a gamble of cutting XP from the market when they know that their Vista is still tryin to recover from its probs.

So, you are better off getting some improved hardware with that extra money that you saved for Vista and be prepared for it, when it comes with less glitches in two years time and at a more affordable price, then.

Wait a while till all he bugs are sorted out. It came on the market a bit too soon. It is a completely new system that will be really great but a lot of the trouble finding is being done by the people now using it Wait for the updates Probably early next year, about a year after it's introduction. In the meantime XP is the best to use.

No. Windows XP will be completely fine for more than 5 years to come. PC's running this are not going to become obsolete anytime soon and an upgrade to Vista will cost extra money that can be better spent on hardware upgrades.

Depends on your hardware and your ability to withstand buggy software. Vista is a major resource hog, and if your computer isn't top of the line it will not run with all the little bells and whistles.

I'd wait until the first major service pack comes out before upgrading if your hardware is capable. Otherwise I'd wait and just buy a new computer with vista installed

Not really. Vista only taxes your computer more making it run slower and does not offer that much improvement for the average user...

If you just do email, internet, ect then just keep it untill they force you to upgrade....more than likely trying to upgrade would require some investment in new video hardware and or memory.

XP was niggle prone when it first came out but is good now because they've (mostly) been eradicated. I always say give it a year for any niggles to surface and be ironed out before upgrading to the next version of windows.

From a personal point of view no - very expensive if your hardware can't handle the new OS.

From a professional point of view no - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Why do you want to upgrade? Peer pressure? It sure isn't because of software, very few publishers have written anything for it.

Good luck and be sure your bank account can handle it!

depends what you do with it. but for the sake of the general questions "is it worth it". not at the moment. there is too much out there right now that isnt completely compatable just yet. id wait fro a service pack at the least.
