You could call it Zapotabologna and it will still be a marriage.

I think that enough heteros have played so fast and loose with it already, I wouldn't want to have anything to do with the concept of "marriage", anyway. Then on the other hand, I've seen plenty of straight couples who have fallen in love, raised kids and built a life together without so much as an "I do" or a handful of rice thrown at them.

I would be more than happy if my partner and I could have the designation of domestic partnership and all the things that go with it. But let's face reality: call it marriage, civil union, domestic partnership or PB&J, and to some people it will not make one bit of difference. To them, the very idea of two men or two women together is just WRONG, and it doubles the "sin" if someone is able to step in and legalize it.

Believe it or not, there are still just as many people who feel the same way about interracial marriages, so why should we be surprised?

Some would and some wouldn't. There are some bigots that simply do not want to see gay citizens gain any form of acceptance. As for me, I do not like the concept of "Gay Marriage". I prefer the concept that all people (gay or straight) should have the basic human right to marry. If a church is willing to marry any couple then there should be no govenment interference. The result would not be a gay or straight marriage, but simply a marriage.

I don't think those who are opposed to the idea of homosexual partnerships/marriages will ever be for it. We might want to keep a politically correct term, but the fact that most of the hatred is spurred by bigotry and ignorance will not make it any different in any scenario.

Probably not... gay marriage is called a civil union and they still hate the idea of it.
.. filing for domestic partnership is a bit different.

hotboy 225: I'm pretty sure more "straight" men rape little kids than gay men.

I'd think that people would still be against it because they were raised by moronic people to think that anything different than them is horrible and different and needs to be changed. I'm for gay marriage even though I'm not gay or bi. I just don't see how it affects anyone but them. If they want to be married to their lover then I say we let them. Too bad I can't vote yet. . .

some approve of laws for gay partners but dont want the title of "marriage"

my mum does not like gay marrage because she see's it as something that is to do with god and as far as she is concerned its a sin therefore god cannot bless gay marrage but by all means have a "partnership" so you have legal protections

personally i think god loves gays so i WANT GAY MARRAGE, although i understand not every church agrees with it, altho quite a few do, i would say a law needs to be made where you can make your partnership a marrage but allow indivudal churchs as faith organisations to decided if they will do this marrage

id rather have my wedding done by a minister who does not think im wrong in gods eyes, when im trying to comit to whomever becomes my future husband in the eyes of my god!

I think its OK to have a "civil partnershiP" to ensure proper legal rights etc. However, I don't agree with it being called "gay marriage" as it implies it is on a par with religious marriage, which it is not.

You'd still have opposition from the misguided christian right however more straights might be inclined to accept it since "Domestic Partnership" doesn't sound like it is infringing on their rights.

Gay people should be free to form what ever union they feel best for themselves. There is no reason for the gvmt to regulate, define, and enforce what a marriage is.

It's time to get the gvmt OUT of the marriage business!

Considering the States that have gone against it have also worded their hate to include any type of recognition which approximates any benefits similar to marriage, I doubt it.
