You can't mess up a line-up with stars like that. Someone has to hit third and someone has to hit eighth, so let the game begin and let's see what happens.

Of course there is a plan. The reason Bonds is hitting 2nd, is so he comes up as many times as possible. He is playing at home, and LaRussa is giving him that respect. Beltran is the prototypical 3rd hitter.
The fact is, he has 8 guys who can hit. He needs someone to hit in front of the pitcher's spot, and Utley has speed, power and a good bat...so he is the right fit there.
The rest of the lineup really doesn't matter. LaRussa is going to give the veterans more chances than the rookie (Fielder), so that is why he is hitting 6th.
In reality, Beltran should not even be there. Rowand should be starting, and if he was, he would be hitting down in the lineup, with Griffey 3rd, Wright 4th, Fielder 5th.
But they are there as an honor. It really doesn't matter where they hit...it's an All-Star team, and someone has to hit 6th, 7th, or 8th.

Are you serious, that line up can not be messed up. And come on get serious now Utley is not better then Beltran. And Bonds hitting 2nd is perfect with Reyes in front of him. Think about it LaRussa has it set up as 1 man gets on the other drives him home. A bit bat in every other hole.

um utley better than beltran??? are you serious??
if i could rewrite the order the only thing i mgiht change is switch fielder and wright. thats it. everything else is fine. the reason bonds is second is because that way he definitly gets AB in his town AND he'll get to see pitches inthe 2 spot
plus its the AS game which really is an *** game lol noone cares anymore, the game is all publicity

yea, bonds shouldnt be batting 2nd ... jimmy rollins should be starting instead of reyes, he has at least 10 doubles, triples, and home runs, rollins and granderson are only the 9th and 10th players since 1960 to have that at the all star break, j roll is also in the top 5 of like 5 stat categories
