When I depress caps lock, it shows as "on" but now everything types in lower case. The numbers still show as !@#$ even when I do this. It appears the keyboard configuration was changed, but I have no idea how it was changed or how to change it back. Thank you for your help.

have you tried a different keyboard?

yup. possible sticky shifty key thing. un stick it

I had the same problem sorta,
everytime I started my computer it dropped to bios.

I've basically never (22 years) had a problem I couldn't solve myself until I came across this one.

I had to take my computer in.
under 1 minute they switched my keyboard and charged me 35$
30 for labor 5 for a new keyboard

I was pissed.

good luck

Your shift key is stuck.

Press it a couple of times and see if it helps. If you press it five times in a row sticky keys will apply read the box before you select OK.

Use some rubbing alcohol and a Q Tip and clean around your Shift Keys.
