Ok, Im learning about graphing and I cant get ahold of my teacher to ask her this question so I thought I would bring it here. Im trying wright the equation of a line with given slope and y-intercept.
This is the question.

Slope: -2; y-intercept: (0, 4)

I believe if you turned this into a equasion you would have
y= -2x + 4

Now this is where I think I am messing up. When you plot this on a graph I go to (0,4) and then I go back 2 points to make -2. This would create a strait line. Is this correct?

You're doing pretty well so far. Remember though that slope is rise over run. So in this case for every 2 the equation moves down, it moves 1 to the right. So begin at (0,4), and move 2 down and 1 to the right, and plot a new point, (1,2). Then do it again, plot (2, 0). You should be able to connect a straight line between these points. This is the plot of your graph which, you are correct, is: y = -2x + 4.

Your equation is correct. Now let us discuss a few points on the line.

When x = 0, y = 4 That is the intercept.

When x = 1, y = -2 + 4 = 2 . So, you have 1,2 as the point.

Wnen x = 2, y = 0. So, you have 2, 0 as the next point.

As x goes on increasing, y becomes -ve. And if x is -ve, y is +ve. Draw this and see.

Good luck.

Your equation is correct, y = -2x + 4

A slope of -2 tells you that from point (0,4), your y value drops 2 (that's the -2) when your x value goes up 1.

Your next point would be (1, 2)

the 1st 2 are interior the format of y=mx+b the place b is y-intercept while x=0 and m is the slope of upward push over run For Y=5x-a million your first ingredient is x=0 and y=-a million you may then pass over a million to x=a million and up 5 to y=4 and proceed repeating (2,9) (3,14) etc and you may pass in the different direction as properly x=-a million and y=-6 (-2,-11) (-3,-sixteen) For y=-2x+3 first ingredient is x=0, y=3 then with the slope of -2 the subsequent ingredient could be x=a million y=a million, (2, -a million) (3, -3) etc. you additionally can pass interior the -x direction to x=-a million y=5 (-2,7) (-3,9) observe that the slope on it is opposite of the 1st situation or negatively sloped The final one desires to be converted to y=mx+b by using including y to the two facets and subtracting 6 from the two facets to get y=3x-6 following an identical approach your y-intercept is (0,-6) then the 1st few factors in each and each direction are (a million,-3) (2,0) (3,3) and in the different direction (-a million,-6) (-2,-9) (-3,-12)

plot (0,4) then go down two and right one.

If the slope is -2 you have to think Rise over Run. -2/1 not 1/-2

It was a very easy question. Since it is a linear equation in 'x' hence the graph will always be straight line.
