Do the stuff inside the parentheses first...
3^2 (5^2+7^2)
= 3^2 (25 + 49)
= 9 * (74)
= 666

you little devil

You need to rember that n^2 (n squared or n to the second power) means n*n, example: 2^2=2*2=4.

By order of operation (remember PEMDAS or Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally) we need to evaluate our exponents (squaring is an exponent operation, we are raising something to the second power) first: 3^2=9, 5^2=25 and 7^2=49. Then we evaluate what is in the Parentheses: 25+49=74, then we multiply (Note: having two numbers next to each other with one or both in parentheses indicates multiplication) 9(74)=396.

Hope that helps.

the ^ implies an exponent (or power).
2^2 = 2 x 2 (or 2 to the second power)
2^4 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 16 (2 to the 4th power)

having said that , there might be missing operation in there.
I think it is supposed to be
3^2 x (5^2+7^2)
which would be
3x3 x (5x5 + 7x7) or
9 x (25 + 49) =
9 x (74) = 666....oooh...that's evil
