My foot has been swelling up on me for the last 2 weeks and I getting kinda concerned about it. yes I do plan on going to the doctor if it continues but I really want an answer now of what it could be. I'm thinking its a little more of a serious problem.

first: I'm overweight
second: diabetes runs in my family
third: my moms feet used to swell bad but we always thought it was because of her drinking.
forth: its not swoll when I get up in the mornings
fifth: it is fluid cause when I push on it, then the impressions stay there.
sixth: high blood pressure really runs in the family

see so I'm getting a little worried. do you know why it would swell. its only my left foot and ankle. and I have not injured it or got a bite. its something internal. Has anyone had this happen to them? thanks for listening and please try and help.

the swelling you describe is called pitting edema, and it may indicate a heart problem. Don't wait to see if it continues, get your self to a doctor and get it checked out.

I've looked at some of the other answers you've gotten on this question and your responses from yesterday, and it does sound like you've gotten some good advice already. I will summarize some of their points and add a few thoughts of my own:

1. your leg swelling, as an above responder pointed out is called "pitting edema"

2. causes of pitting edema can come from a few places- allow me to copy the response from a previous question I answered:
Five things come to mind with leg swelling (fluid retention): kidneys not getting rid of water well or getting rid of protein too well, liver not making protein, heart not pumping well (heart failure), lymph ducts or veins clogged due to obstruction from tumor or less likely exotic infection (only if you've been traveling to 3rd world places), or finally my garbage basket- low protein in your blood from any number of causes of inflammation (infection, pregnancy, endocrine abnormalities such as low thyroid, etc...)
Now typically the above causes swelling of BOTH legs, with the exception of lymph duct obstruction- this and obstruction of the vein from a blood clot (among other things) or defective valves in the veins- can lead to swelling of the affected leg. The one other thing I would add to this is if you have any tenderness or redness in the area as well- it may be a skin infection called "cellulitis"

3. You will need to go to the doctor to have some blood work done and possibly an ultrasound of your leg to make sure you don't have a blood clot- there isn't any way around this- I nor any other physician can make the diagnosis without seeing you. And while the cause of swelling is likely benign at your age of 33, if it's a blood clot, it's not- and I wouldn't take that chance.

4. With a "family history" of diabetes and high blood pressure, you shoud be following up with your doctor relatively often (yearly basis at least) to have these things monitored.

Good luck- I hope this gives you some insight- but if you're planning that trip to the doctor anyway, I'd go now and stop waiting for someone to make a diagnosis over the web- No one can.

Hun, I think based on what I'm seeing on the Web MD site and what the nurse had to say, you really need to go see your doctor ASAP.

Here is the link, go check it out for yourself - the top 3 are all blood clots and heart conditions, then from there, it goes on.. perhaps you can answer the Q's about your symptoms better than I could.

Please, call your doctor.

Stop asking this question and get yourself to the doctor. I've asked enough question here to know that half of the people who answer don't have the foggiest idea what they are talking about, but yet try to act like they are an expert. Also even it someone has some of the symptoms that you are talking about doesn't mean it's the same thing. My son-in-law is an ENT and if someone asks him a question that doesn't pertain to his field he tells them to go to THEIR DOCTOR. Stop putting this off and get an appointment NOW. Doesn't sound like it's going to get better on it's own and no one here is going to make it better either. Good luck

Symptoms sound a lot like CHF (congestive heart failure). It is extremely important you go see a doctor soon. This may not be life threatening now but will be in time if you dont get proper treatment soon.

You could have "claudication" (I think that's the word) - a condition in which there's a blockage in the veins in the legs so the blood doesn't circulate well and pools in the feet.
You must get to a doctor ASAP. It could be very serious.
Meanwhile, keep your feet up when you're sitting.

please get your butt to the doctor as soon as possible. (get your whole self to the doctor, not just your butt) here online we can answer to the best of our ability, but for the most part, many of us really have no medial training, and though we give advice to the best of our ability, and with the best of intentions, when it comes to something like this, you really really need to get proffessional help from a real medical doctor. Please don't keep hesitating on this matter. Look, you have an advantage of knowing your families medical history, please use this to help yourself live a long healthy and productive life. I am sory for sounding like I am preaching, or scolding you, most of the time I try to keep my answers simple, or avoid the questions that affect me deeply as this one has, simply because I don't want to come off as rude, I honestly don't want to see anything happen to you that you could have avoided by getting to the doctors sooner. I know it's scary, but you have the power to get this diagnosed, treated, and under control, please, please, please...GO!!
end of sermon, and I am sorry if I have offended you, or anyone else with my answer,my best to you, please let us know how this turns out. Peace

If it is that serious, how come you haven't been to see a doctor? It could be so many different things that people online can't diagnose you. Are you going to trust a stranger on here or a doctor's visit?

like i said before look in to your body for other signs. we can not give a positive answer if their is no test done. overweight can also cause fatty liver, and that also can cause a person to swell. please go to the doctor if you are worried that is how you going to get a straight answer.
