If you want an inexpensive hotel/casino near the Hard Rock Hotel, try Terrible's(it's not really terrible) which is only a block or so away.

go during the week, you will pay almost three times as much to go to vegas over the weekend. Eat only one meal a day and make it a buffet at around 3ish. I don't know where the hardrock is but it is cheaper to stay in the downtown area rather than on the strip. You can also find some motels that are a couple blocks off the strip cheaper than the theme hotels that everybody knows. Also vegas allows open container so if you are going to drink do it on the way to the casino that way you won't have to throw down alot of money on drinks

I think you can get a hotel/plane tickets package on several internet sites...and some may even include a rental car.
My husband most recently used Travelocity.com.

I would try Priceline. Their "Set your own price" ensured I had a good room for a very cheap price. They also have "set your own price" on plane tickets and car rentals.
