According to the CIA web site the following was posted. I am doing this from memory, but it's accurate enough so you can get a good idea.

Income disparity.

USA bottom 10% of income is shared by 1.8% of the people
China, bottom 10% of income is shared by 1.8% of the people
(same)

USA Top 10% of income is shared by 30% of the people
China, top 10% of income is shared by 33% of the people
(china edges out the USA)

According to other sources
20 years ago China owned 100% of the businesses
now they own less then 30% and is handing more and more of that over to private enterprise.

According to China, China is cracking down on corruption. What you are talking about is corruption, not cronyism.

One of the biggest problems that China is facing is corruption. That is why President Hu has made it a top priority to weed it out. Problem, he's fighting 5,000 years of it and the other problem is corruption usually doesn't exist in high officials, but rather local ones. Exception are of course the food and drug official that was recently executed.

What most people don't know about China is Beijing doesn't have the strangle hold on the country as most assume in the west. That the provinces are autonomous and in some cases defy Beijings edicts. That is where the corruption lies, in as much as it does in the USA.

There are many types of corruption and in the USA that is done on the national level in the form of favors for campaign money.

However, I'd say, once the archives are open on Bush that he will go down in history as not only a liar, but full of corrupt officials that did in fact benefit from corruption, but in their case, they were able to cover their tracks well and that the lack of checks and balances, plus an ineffective press allowed them to get away with it.

Peace

Surprisingly no. If you watch the series China Rising by the Discovery Channel you will find out that there is a growing middle class.

Maybe there is something to that, but maybe you could say the same thing about the US, or really almost any country.

For now it still is (the communist party), but that may actually start changing, hopefully.
