why not...
we have the technology, and eventually we will be able to go to other planets where we can truely colonize (maybe hundreds of years hence)..

Though I might agree that we need to concentrate on helping ourselves here..and send out robots or similar instead for exploration.

update:
The I.S.S. is not neccessarily a great step...
Though for testing the possibilities...we are not yet at a point where the space station is litterarlly the 1st step.
Until we can litterally use the ISS to refuel a space-only craft...its just a toy.

Are you asking if I believe people have gone into space or believe people should be going into space?

I've never witnessed a single launch first-hand. It could all be fantasy, just like the assassination of JFK and the state of Israel, with all the trouble there. No first-hand experience there, either. Although there is some pretty blatant propaganda foisted upon us these days, I'm guessing it's a fairly safe bet that people have gone into space.

Should people go into space? Currently most problems are rooted in overpopulation - problems with distribution of resources including space. Some have said god created terrorists to help thin the herd. Do you feel the experiment is succeeding, or should human life be ended? Population control has been a bone of contention for decades (at least) - look at the one-China policy and the one-child policy of China.

Whether you view the universe as a vacuum to be filled with humanity, or think we should confine ourselves right here, at some point either we control our numbers or they will control us. The day of reckoning can be vastly deferred - discounting interspecies wars, of course - by colonizing space. Maybe the surfaces of natural bodies could be colonized eventually, also, but they already entail political and philosophical issues (think Moon Treaty). Building enclosed space is far easier and more economical at this point.

Besides all that, if people are still around, the sun will - without intervention, of course - contain Mars within its surface when it becomes a red giant. A decision would be made whether to do anything, even if not deciding is the eventual decision.

"Believe" is an interesting way to put it. I cannot see a good argument for keeping people out of space. Is man destined to remain only on this planet? If you think so, then what makes you think so? We must solve e all the problems on this planet before we go off into space? Why? Why not just leave the stupidity and politics behind and go form a new start with a moon colony?

Ever heard of the International Space Station? It's a key first step in ultimately setting up space colonies, like, for example, the Moon.
