The reason I asked this is because of an answer given by someone who has 30% best answers...and answers a lot in psychology.

devin...an electrocardiogram is used to record the electrical activity of the heart...not even an EEG would do what you were ranting about...I believe you meant an MRI...but you were still wrong about one part at a time *lighting up*

That's scientifically proved, it's not just an opinion.

Dude, when I said we use 10% of our brain, I didn't mean we only use 10% of the component parts of the brain. All the component elements and regions of the brain are active. When they say we only use 10% of the brain, they probably just mean our brain doesn't work at its full potential and that it's capable of much more productivity.

Prisonerofshallowness, huh? I'm anything but shallow. The fact that you can think you figured out a person's main defining traits based on one answer IS shallow. I explained my reasons for my belief above. If you find them unreasonable and keep misinterpreting my point, I guess you're placed in a position of shallowness.

Very advanced researchs in brain functions have bring some scientists to believed that our reasonings come principally from the neocortex layer of the brain, and that this layer is only few millimeters thick has is composed of 6 sub-layers, which work in parallel to process subconscious data and raise the most relevant data to the upper layer (thus our consciouness).
So it still remain to be seen if this theory of our brain functions will hold further studies, but in this case, I should say that we can`t use all our brain capabilities, knowing this, at least not at a conscious level. It may even be less than 10% utilizations in the case of cognitive functions of the brain!
And believe me, the psychologists in this place, don`t have all access to latest developments in this field, and they are often outdated, without knowing it!!

I'm no smart a s s or anything but i think its based on the dumb sh it we humans do every day. The decisions we make, the things we create. I say this because some many people are miss using the word "if". what if i kidnapped a child. could i pay the rent then. What if i hijacked a plan, would i bring peace to my country and my family. What if i designed a new weapon for my government, would i be honored for all time. We people don't know what we are doing.

Well, the article you gave pretty much answers your own question.

I think the origin of the myth could come from the fact that although we use "all" of our brain, we are still somehow not using it to full capacity. There is much more our brains can be doing than what they do. I believe that if we exercised certain parts we would be able to do things like communicate telepathically and affect the physical world with our thoughts. Its not that we aren't using certain parts, it's that we don't exercise the entire potential of the human mind.

Because they are probally underestating. Its probally less for others, more for others! Our brain is dead weight, where is our sole at? That is where we are all about. So give me a lobotomy, the brain controls our body. You are listing to the Nazisries who experemented on the jews while alive! Where did all this knoweldge come from? I have 4 doctors in my family, went to classes with them. Just ask me! I know the breakdown of our brain. Thats why I became a machinest. So lets do not allways believe what we hear. Most of its wrong. I have had a near death experence, Eveyything I saw happened. My Phyrisrisits spent 4 hours with me. Not to mention my cardiolist, told him what he did! How did I knoe that, stents collaspsed, Worke up with 6 bypasses. I am cursed because I did not want to come back here. Now my faith is a rock, chip all that you like. How many of you knoe your mortality? Just testing, I know mine let that be a lesson. You think you know what happens when you die. I do, Na, Na, Na, nana. I fell sorry for those that don't know. You don't have to listen to me. Cut me oprn while I am alive, tell you alot more than 10%. You do not want to be me cause I know just exatly whats going to happen. Hey you might say this is great, Its a curse, to live with onty myself. !0% of our brains, that controls your body. Thats no **** I know where I am going. Must really stink to dought yourself. Do not believe 10% of your brain, whoever thought I bet he is insane. Sorry for the spelling, spell check doe's not like my answer. Going 10 minuintes. I wonder what that means?

You use all of your brain, but certain parts light up for certain things.

Like talking, part of the frontal and a piece of the temporal light up.

Studying something visually causes frontal and occipital lobe to light up

all of this is under an ECG.

No people say YOU only use ten percent of your brain.

The rest of use our brains as they are designed. The fact is that human beings simply don't understand fully how the brain functions. The parts of the brain that are labeled as 'unused' are actually used, just not understood.

Because we are using only 10% of our brains. I'm sure if you tried to find a sight or a book on the brain you could find a picture of the areas lit up where the brain is working at. (sometimes it's on the news)
There have been specal events where a person is in terrable accedent and the brain is badly damaged and it has slowly repaired it self; rewireing it through another area. Or God rewirded the brain. God made our brains. He is the one that knows all.

We use 10% of our total brain. As to what that number is based
on, I have never been able to get a satisfactory answer.

It's all pretty subjective.

Until a few years ago, scientists who studied brain function believed that to be true.

Now, that contention has been debunked.
