We have a pretty free press and media and are now in the 60th year of a vibrant democracy. Of course we have along way to go as far as corruption is concerned. Is the media instrumental in increasing accountability?

No. In the first place media is not accountable. Accountability by the Indian Government is not possible even in dreams. Our politicians can control our dreams too with their connections to the under world. So just forget all these stuff do your 9 to 5 or what ever it is job and be cool. When you get a chance try to vote to an educated and decent candidate even though you know he is going to loose. Don't vote to those criminals planted by major political parties with the sole idea of casting your vote to a winner. This is what even our educated fools do in every single election.

What do you mean by accountability? Accountability for what? The government should be the accountable ones for all the poverty. The problem is they mix religious beliefs with politics and as long as you have that you will not have a corrupt free gov't. The gov't needs to help their people! The media also needs to stop censoring!

In what way, Indian government owns accountability - Inflation, coorruption, social injustice, terrorism, lawlessness, pollution.

My friend - we have free press but what have they contributed to the eradication of the above evils. Media in India are by no means better than politicians. They have to be first disciplined, then may be India is better.
