There have been a surprisingly large number of players who have hit a homerun in their first major league at bat - 97, in fact.

Here is a complete list:

I heard a good trivial question once - what major league player hit a home run in his first at bat and never hit another one in over 1,000 major league games.

Dave Eiland's homer was always my favorite in this category. He made his debut in 1988, but as a pitcher in the AL, he didn't bat until he moved to San Diego in 1992. First time up, ding! Only took him four years.

And then you have Kevin Kouzmanoff, who hit a *grand slam* home run on the *first pitch* of his first Major League at bat on September 2, 2006! He's the only player to hit a grand slam on the first pitch he ever saw in the majors. Only two others have hit a grand slam in their first at-bat.

ok so this guy above me has way too much time on his hands. What , not in alphabetical order? Anyways, i think one of the coolest first at bat was Marcus Thames against Randy Johnson. First "Pitch" the guy sees in the majors from Randy Johnson he goes yard. Pretty Impressive.

I'm not sure when and not even sure if it was his 1st at bat, but Willie Mays' first major-league hit was a homerun.

Ben Francisco came in to pinch hit, and hit a walk-off bomb to left. He's gonna be great someday.
