Black Gold is the nick name given to pepper seeds by the east India Company.
The time when the British ruled the major part of the world, they formed an organization called east India Company to trade with many eastern countries like India, China, Singapore etc.. and the pepper seeds which considered to be a costly spice got the name as "Black Gold".

According to the Beverly Hillbillies theme song, it's crude oil.
Come and listen to a story about a man named Jed
A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed,
Then one day he was shootin at some food,
And up through the ground came a bubblin' crude.
Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea.
Well the first thing you know ol' Jed's a millionaire,
Kinfolk said Jed move away from there
Said Californy is the place you ought to be
So they loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly.
Hills, that is.
Swimmin pools, movie stars.
The Beverly Hillbillies!

Right now it's Oil.
Futher down the road it may be Coal when everything is Hybrid.
Can't think of any reason pepper would be.

Neither, it is Oil.
Remember the Beverly Hillbilly theme tune, you have to been around in the 60's to remember it. It is Oil for sure.

coal is considered "the new black gold" which makes more sense than oil actually, since it is mined in the rock form.
