Lately this past week he has been pulling at his left ear. Is this just discovery or is something wrong with his ear and it is bothering him? No fever or sickness. He is 4.5 months old.

As long as he's happy and playing and doesn't scream bloody murder when you lie him down or try to feed him, he's probably just discovered that thing on his head and is playing with it because he can.

If anything about his demeanor is not right to you, then it's worth having his ears checked by the doctor.

Most babies do pull at their ears at one stage or another. Both my daughters did. But if there is fussiness or fever then that is usually a sign of an ear infection. But if he has no other signs than he is probably just discovering something new.

I would say he probably just found his ear or is starting the teething process, but if a fever occurs or he starts getting fussy I would take him to the dr and make sure its not an ear infection other than that it should be ok!

he could just be starting an ear infection. The first sign is tugging at the ears. If he starts crying a lot and develops a fever, then he has an ear infection. You should take him to the doctor just to have them check his ear.

when a baby pulls the ear and so on he could be getting an ear infection. take him to the doctor like tomorrow before it gets bad. trust me you will not sleep if it gets bad.

If you ever have question about the baby call the doctor that's what they are here for.

I actually asked my doc about this at our baby's 6 month checkup. Sometimes it means they have an ear/sinus infection, but in our daughters case, she was just discovering her ears.

If he cries while pulling on it, he probably has an ear ache. If he laughs while doing it, he just discovered his ear.
