Traveling to France; Normandy Tips?

Question

I am going to France and plan to visit Normandy for a couple of days and I would like to know a good place to stay. I was thinking of staying in Vierville-sur-Mer.

Any suggestions on hotels or where to stay. I will be there in Sept.

I lived in Evreux, France, a tiny town about an hour outside of Rouen for 7 months and did lots of traveling around Normandy... Bayeux is a must see... a lot of the towns were bombed in WWII and thus loss some of their historical charm (like Evreux), but Bayeux was spared and is everything you would want in a town: walkable, charming, and has the Bayeux tapestry featuring the Norman conquest of 1066. Also, the beaches are a must see for history's sake--the battle sites are much as they were during the war. The most magical place in Normandy is on the coast at Mont St Michel; a working monastary, it sits on the coast like a magical castle on a hill. The monastary is at the top of the hill, and as you climb, you walk through a medieval town with narrow streets and charming shops. Nearer inland, Caen is a lovely city, where William the Conquerer was buried. Rouen is where Jeanne d'arc was burned at the stake---she seems to be the saint of Normandy as you'll see icons of her everywhere. A neat little out of the way city is called Les Andelys, where the remains of a castle that Richard the Lionheart lived in for a time sits over the city. Anyway, that's an overview of places I went in Normandy. I don't know much about the city you said you are staying, but I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time. France is wonderful!! Bon voyage!!

Deuville in a beautiful Normandy city. They have chained hotels, Ibis, there which aren't too expensive compared to hotels in Paris. In September, of course, you will be paying less than the high summer rate. Once in Deuville, you could visit the race track, the casinos, the beaches, and they have a movie festival, lesser known than Cannes but still popular. Also you could visit by bus Honfleur, another pretty Normandy small city. Honfleur is known for its painters. Then you could visit Trouville, walking distance from Deuville. Trouville was the home of the famous French writer Gustave Flaubert.
