An intelligent person realizes that ALL life is sacred, regardless of its political beliefs or to whom he prays until he thinks he is God and kills other people.
The act perpetrated by the dope responsible for 9/11, Atta, is the ruler against which further acts of terrorism are measured NOW. Is THAT a manifestation of a "Religion of Peace"?

I presume you mean intelligence as in gathering information about one's enemy.
If so, then it is extremely important in the current conflicts with terrorist entities because it gives us the opportunity to intercept and prevent more attacks such as 9/11 and the Pentagon, the Cole incident, the embassies in Africa incidents, and others.
Gathering intelligence about one's foe in any type of conflict is always important from a military standpoint where plans of attack and defense need to be considered. In the current war where a brutal and poorly organized enemy with many free-lance operators who attack civilian targets willie-nillie, intelligence is of utmost importance to prevent such attacks since the home front will lose confidence much more quickly than our trained soldiers if such attacks occur. Our poorly informed civilian population has been protected for the past few years so that no attacks have occurred. The danger now is that we have become too complacent and over-confident and believe such attacks not only will never occur but wouldn't have occurred at all even if we had not been guarding against them.
Despite our best efforts, one or more terrorist attacks are likely to occur in the near future. We have a wide open border to our south where middle-eastern terrorists can cross mixed in with Mexican aliens. The similarity of complexion and features allow such people to not stand out in this situation. In addition, there are narcotic gangs along the border who, for a price, will smuggle these terrorists into the U.S. Now only across the border but deep into the heart of America.
Our norther border is likewise a dangerously unguarded place, especially when you consider that the Canadians have a lax, open-immigrant policy that caters to Islamic peoples.
I could go on and on but you get the idea. The reasons above and others are why gathering intelligence about the Islamic terrorists is so important.

It isn't. At best, intelligence will tell you where current terrorists might be camped and when/where their next target is located, but intelligence alone cannot defeat terrorism.
Terrorism is simply a part of society; some people will always be upset about something and one of those people will act out in an extreme manner.

Very simple.Bush always percieved as an un-intelligent spoilt little daddy brat/mama's boy who has failed horribly in his filthy lie based war atrocity confirms absolutely that only intelligent people have any chance of defeating terrorism.
I rest my case.

Because without intelligence you can't fight a war. Also you need intelligence to maybe even create counter attacks against the enemy.
