This time last year the Sox were up by 3 games. This year it's 10. The Yankees are a much worse team than they were last year, pitching is even worse, lineup is weaker. The Sox are much better than last years flawed squad. Pitching staff is excellent as opposed to the terrible staff of last year, and the lineup is probably a tiny better stronger. So I'd say the Yanks have absolutely no shot at the AL East. Maybe the wildcard, but I doubt they can hang with the Tigers and Indians.

alright well the yankees were 4.5 games back going into the half way mark. They yankees should heat up in the later part of the season like they always do and then boston should start sucking like they always do. I do just because the red sox pitchers get hurt with blisters or old age, beckett/schilling and some of there main players are injured. The yankees are starting to play as a team and there pitching has remembered how to do that, if the yanks play like they did last year in the second half its a no brainer that they will win the division

If the Red Sox go 42-33 for the second part of the season, to win 95 games, the Yankees will have to go 53-24, 29 games over .500. If the Red Sox play only .500 ball for the rest of the season, say 37-38, the Yankees would have to go 48-29, which is feasible. That's what it would take. A Yankees surge and a Red Sox collapse. Could happen, but I hope it doesn't

Have you seen the Sox schedule for the second half? In the month of July, the only quality teams they are playing are Cleveland and Toronto. They have Baltimore, Tampa, White Sox, KC. In August, they have 15 games out of 29 games once again against Tampa, Baltimore and the White Sox. They do have tough games against the Angels, Seattle, and the Yanks. Not so much a killer schedule though overall. Sept you ask? 12 more games against Baltimore and Tampa. Oakland and the Yanks will be tough again and Minnesota always plays us tough. Oh, and one other tidbit. 17 out of the 27 games in September are at home, so that bodes well for them as well. Yankees have a soft schedule as well (except 8 games against Detroit and good luck with that as us Red Sox fans found out), so they would have to play WAY above .500 to catch up. I am highly confident the Sox will win the division. As far as the playoffs and World Series?? Not right now with the way they are playing. All I can hope for is Ortiz and Manny get hot at the right time.

No. They Yankees are such a stacked team, but they can never do anything with it. They haven't won the world series in 7 years. But I don't think that they can pass Boston this year. Although there is still a lot of baseball to be played, they are 10 games back and they first have to deal with Toronto who is also 10 games back, but in 2nd while the Yanks are in 3rd.

They're too far back to catch the Sox (East) or win the WildCard. Sorry Yanks fans just get it into your head that you're not making up over 10games on this Red Sox team. And the Tigers and Indians are so good in the Central that I don't see them losing a Wild Card lead to the Yankees either.

And to that Mets fan up there, A-Rod said he likes being in NY and would like to retire a Yankee at the end of his career. So why would he opt out of his contract after saying that like last week? He'll be wearing pinstripes in the Bronx for a while so just get used to it and become a man like us Sox fans. Just tool on this guy daily, Gay-Rod will not make a difference in this horrible Yankee line-up.

Again again again...

It's only half way through the season. 82 game left. It is VERY possible for the Yanks to win the division. The Red Sux aren't doing good right now either. If the Yanks can actually start hitting consistently, and Pettitte/Mariano wake up, they'll be in good shape.

I'm not sure how far back they were last season...I think they still have a chance, but they just have to be consistent, especially with their pitching. I'd be happy if they did it again. You just gotta believe.
