Because society deems it proper. Back in the day when women did not have jobs to support themselves it was to protect them and the children who came as a result of the marriage. I really don't see any reason for it now because regardless of whether there are children involved people get divorced regardless. In that case the parents should be held financially responsible for the children they create. Maybe with no marriage both male and female would have extra incentive to keep themselves presentable and would work harder to keep a relationship since they would not be "legally bound to each other"..

Gay people should be allowed to be married because they are entitled to equal rights. Gay people also NEED their families and community support them in their relationships. Imagine thinking everyone was against you.

Marriage is just a commitment two people make to one another. If you don't understand it --- it's because you haven't really loved anyone enough to marry them. That is okay.

Stay single as long as you feel that way. Don't allow society to decide for you.

Nobody needs to be married. Being married is a legal commitment to another person. Yes you can be committed to someone without the piece of paper, but you can't get all the benefits of legally being married. I am guessing you are not a huge fun of marriage huh?

Where is it written that people need to be married? There is no such law nor rule. You should get married ONLY if you firmly believe that it is what you want, if you love the person you want to marry, and if you are mature enough to accept a life-long commitment.

For two reasons. the first being it's a celebration of two people who are will to commit to each other for the rest of their lives and family and friends are invited to be a part of the celebration. Secondly, your are protected in case of death of your spouse, a divorce(heaven forbid), or the state trying to take the estate from you. You need to enlarge your world and see the bigger picture here.
