Just about every college student loves to read, so that is not much of a qualification for trying to determine how you are going to make a living.

It's a good thing that you know what you like, but it's not a good thing that you havent made any life plan for how you will support yourself. You need to make a plan.

You could be a librarian, an English teacher or reading specialist, or an attorney. All of those require a lot of reading. I have a friend who is a PhD in English Lit who went to law school and makes a pile of money reading over contracts and rewriting them to eliminate loopholes.

It is great if people get a job doing exactly what they love. But there is a practical aspect to this too. No one is going to pay you for sitting around in your den reading novels. You have to connect that to some job a person with money wants done, so they will give you the money to do it.

Don't be aimless about this. Make a decision and work on it.

Good luck.

Well, you could teach...

Copy writing... that is where I am headed.

Teaching, of course.

Historical research.

You could teach.

Editor for a magazine.

teaching.

Get my point?

Seriously though, there are a lot of career options, you just have to be creative. I do think you should have more criteria than that for your major. It is a good base though... not every college student loves to read. Anything else you enjoy a great deal? See if you can combine the two and make it into a bonafied career option.

Oh and don't let the man with a plan scare you. We are all just faking it until we make it... trust me you aren't alone in these problems. Practicality is for when you start a family... enjoy your college experience, and stick to what you love. There is always retraining, when you do find a career to settle in to.

If you're really worried about job prospects, try double-majoring. Take up economics or something and then you can work in finances or something and still keep your hobby.
